About
I am a PhD candidate at the European University Institute’s Department of Political and Social Sciences (Florence, Italy). My expectation is that the PhD title will be awarded by the EUI before the summer of 2012.
My PhD dissertation aims at understanding whether the media agenda-setting capacity (i.e., the impact that media content has on the importance people give to several political and social issues) varies from country to country, and if the nature of the several European media systems (or their impact in the informational environment, both from the perspective of the supply and demand) is connected with such variability. It also tries to shed light on several theoretical and methodological questions regarding agenda-setting in Europe. The focus is set in the 2009 EP election campaign period, and all EU member-states (except for Luxembourg) are included in the analysis.
My research interests also include media effects in general, exposure to media during political campaigns (patterns and causes), political participation, voting behavior (namely strategic and economic voting) and political attitudes in Europe, including elite and mass attitudes towards the European Union’s performance, future enlargements and integration process.
